Now a landmark and a national recreation area, this small island has served as a lighthouse as well as hosting military and federal prisons. It has housed some of the most famous criminals of our time - like Al Capone, Robert Franklin Stroud (the Birdman of Alcatraz), George "Machine Gun" Kelly, James "Whitey" Bulger, and Alvin Karpisto, just name few. On June 11, 1962 Frank Morris, John Anglin and Clarence Anglin successfully carried out one of the most intricate escapes ever devised, followed shortly by the closing of the prison. Tours of the island allow glimpses into the dark past of this place, and are well worth the trip. From our hotel, Alcatraz is just a short 20-minute drive to Pier 41 followed by a short ferry ride to the island. |

Our courtesy shuttle leaves the airport every 20-30 minutes with service to Howard Johnson South San Francisco, and runs from 4:00am until 1:00am daily. Upon arrival to the SFO airport, look for the Hotel Courtesy Shuttle pick-up area, which is situated outside of the departure-level gates (2nd or 3rd floor, depending on what terminal you are in). You will find the shuttle pick-up point at the middle island, where you can take the large white shuttle-bus which services Howard Johnson, Holiday Inn Express, Travelodge, Best Western and Comfort Suites. | Shuttle Pick Up |
 | The Shuttle runs evry 20 to 30 mins on departure level, which is upstairs on level 2 or level 3 depending on the terminal. Guests arrive on the baggage claim area which is downstairs and they need to get upstairs to take the shuttle. There is an area called HOTEL COURTESY SHUTTLE which is situated in the middle island on the departure level.
Attached is the shuttle pics which says Howard Johnson, Travelodge, Holiday Inn Express, Best Western and Comfort Suites. Pls do not take the San Bruno shuttle which also has the hojo sign. For any further questions guests can call 650 589 9055 to get directions for the hotel. |
